The product of an interracial relationship in 1969 Georgia, Malcolm Hansen was born in a home for unwed mothers in Chattanooga, TN. Adopted by two Civil Rights activists, the intersection of the personal and the political is at the heart of his creative work. As a high school dropout who went on to earn a BA in Philosophy from Stanford and an MFA in Creative Writing from Columbia, Malcolm is a passionate educator and advocate for adult literacy. His debut novel, They Come in All Colors, received the 2019 First Novelist Award from the Black Caucus of the American Library Association and was nominated for a 2019 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work. Malcolm currently lives in Harlem with his wife and two sons.
